McFly Visit

Thursday October 20, 2005. Big excitement in the small market town of Wickford.
Just 48 hours beforehand, Adrian is approached by McFLY's management and their record company to host a one-off signing to promote the band's new single. Adrian himself has spent two days doing interviews on radio stations and speaking to the newspapers to make sure all the fans know about the visit. He has also liaised with local police and McFLY's security guys to organise the High Street being closed off so that the safety of the public is ensured.
At 8am on the Thursday, fans start to gather outside ADRIANS store. They've come from far and wide. By midday there's a queue down the High Street, and the police begin to close off the street in anticipation of far more crowds to come.
And the crowds build and build! Up to 50 police officers are keeping an eye on things, but there's no need really. All the fans are behaving perfectly, and the screams of excitement and tears of joy from the girls all add to the buzz. By this time, THE POLICE ESTIMATE THE CROWD TO BE UP TO 2,500!! YES, THAT'S 2,500.

The boys from McFLY arrive, and Danny, Dougie, Harry and Tom settle down in the ADRIANS store ready for the signing. The press and the radio get live interviews. Danny is overheard telling the press that the ADRIANS store is "a legend". Then the fans are ushered in by some of the largest security guys we've ever seen! The McFLY boys are really good to all their fans, and keep the signing and chat and the posing for pictures going for well over two hours!!
By the end, THE POLICE ESTIMATE WAS UP TO............ 3,000!!!!!!

What an event! McFLY made the day for a whole lot of people young and old, and a big thankyou to them. Also thanks to the Essex Police who were so efficient and good-natured throughout, and to Alex at Essex FM for helping to keep the crowds entertained while they waited. But the biggest thanks of all go to the fans. As the McFLY boys kept saying: "Without the fans, this wouldn't happen". Obvious, but very very true.
